A note on Debating Debate
It recently occurred to me that Emily's comments on debate, referenced below, were in regards to a specific debate we were discussing rather than debate in general-she simply sparked my thoughts on the more general topic. (So don't consider what I wrote below to be a quote from her at all-and if I've misrepresented you, Emily, my apologies!)

What was that specific debate?
I don't exactly remember, and it doesn't really matter. My point was that I'm not certain - in fact, I doubt - that most/all of the points I listed would express her real opinion on debate in general: in truth, she seems to enjoy it/consider it worthwhile too!
