The word means "the coming or arrival of something of especial importance." What could be of greater importance than Christ? Therefore we (both in general as Christians and in particular as my family :-))anticipate the celebration of His coming with Advent.
Every year, we begin on the 4th Sunday before Christmas. We light candles almost-nightly (as schedule permits), sing Christmas hymns, read through books together, and study Scriptures related to His birth. Often, we'll do the same in our personal devotions as Christmas approaches. Every Sunday for four Sundays, plus Christmas, we light candles on the Advent wreath and ponder the various parts of the Christmas story that each candle represents: prophecy, Bethlehem, shepherds, angels, and Christ.
Do you/does your family celebrate Advent? If so, how?

I do not think we celebrate Advent per se; the week or two of Christmas we do something similar(with regards to the scripture/hymns, but no candles or reading books together) every morning. What caused your family to start celebrating Advent(and in the form that it is in)? --Josiah C.
