Dayenu

Happy Day after Thanksgiving, everyone! This is my Thanksgiving meditation, with a bit of explanation first...

During Passover (which we celebrated recently*, in abbreviated form, as a unit celebration for the sisters' and Mom's coop), one part that especially (*searching for the right word*) touched? stuck out to? encouraged? me was Dayenu. 'Dayenu' is the transliteration of a Hebrew word that roughly means "it would have been enough." In the Passover ceremony, it is a responsive reading, where the leader reads a blessing given to Israel, and everyone else responds "Dayenu." I have written a (very abbreviated!) "Dayenu" for us Christians. (if you read it with an implied "only" in each "if" phrase it will make more sense :-))

If He had given us the garden of Eden
Dayenu
If He had given us the sacrificial system
Dayenu
If He had given us His chosen people
Dayenu
If He had given us the prophecies
Dayenu
If He had given us the promises
Dayenu
If He had given us the Old Testament
Dayenu
If He had sent John the Baptist
Dayenu
If He had sent Jesus
Dayenu
If Jesus had taught us the way to live
Dayenu
If Jesus had healed our bodies
Dayenu
If Jesus had died for our sins
Dayenu
If He defeated sin, death, and hell
Dayenu
If Jesus had arisen
Dayenu
If Jesus had ascended to the Father
Dayenu
If Jesus interecedes for us
Dayenu
If He promised us the Spirit
Dayenu
If He empowers us through the Spirit
Dayenu
If He chose to save Gentiles
Dayenu
If He grafted us in
Dayenu
If He gave us the New Testament
Dayenu
If He predestined us
Dayenu
If He called us
Dayenu
If He forgave our sins
Dayenu
If He saved us from Hell
Dayenu
If He gave us His righteousness
Dayenu
If He made us part of His plan to restore the world
Dayenu
If He made us part of His body
Dayenu
If He loves us
Dayenu
If He made us His sons and daughters
Dayenu
If He made us coheirs with Christ
Dayenu
If He gave us the spiritual gifts
Dayenu
If He made us new
Dayenu
If He works all things for our good
Dayenu
If He promised us Heaven
Dayenu
If He sealed us for Heaven
Dayenu
If He works in us
Dayenu
If He conforms us to Christ's likeness
Dayenu
If He gave us His armor
Dayenu
If He promised us Heaven
Dayenu
If He works in us
Dayenu
If He promises to bring His good work to completion in us
Dayenu
If He gives us access to His presence
Dayenu
If He gave us the fruit of His Spirit
Dayenu
If He sanctifies us
Dayenu
If He gave us everything

...It is enough
It is abundance!!! "Pressed down, shaken together, running over" (Luke 6:38)

"Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out! “For who has known the mind of the LORD? Or who has become His counselor?” “Or who has first given to Him? And it shall be repaid to him?” For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen." (Romans 11:22-26)

*Someday, I would like to celebrate all of the Jewish holidays at their correct times in the year-and if I did it once, I bet I would make it a tradition :-)! There is so much richness in the fulfillment of all the foreshadowing God put in the Israeli feasts!

Thanks for posting this. ^_^

I'd like to revise it just a tiny bit:
"it would have been enough" had God judged us for our sins and punished us in hell. /But/ He has given us all things. Amazing love--/how can it be/?

'Tis truly amazing how the foreshadowing works, and how accurately all of the prophecies were carried out...*thoughtful*...
